![]() What bothers me the most is Support's response: Banktivity wasn't meant for your use case. In all seriousness, the only possible way my family could use this software would be to create an automated count-down clock that tells you in big red letters and loud count down if someone has opened Banktivity, and we all have to clock in that we've verified our own transactions to stop the siren. I always want to see the latest in one account, and then go back to what I was doing. The vast majority of those times I do not have the time, interest, or focus to go through detailed incoming transactions both minor and major in dozens of accounts. A transaction that got categorized wrong.įact is, I end up opening Banktivity every day for one reason or another. You must set aside multiple hours every day or it will go silently into your register as a valid transaction. A valid transaction that you totally forgot was going to happen that will cause you problems. If any of us do not have the time to do this, then that abnormal or wrong transaction (like fraud!) goes silently into the register with no way of ever finding it again except by careful and painful digging.įraud. If anyone in the family opens Banktivity, then all of us have exactly 24 hours to go through a total of 39 accounts and make sure that every single transaction is what we expect. Is everything going into my account what I expect it to be?Īs you all know, if Banktivity sees a transaction it auto-inserts it into your account without your approval. It's not grouped with Today's Balance at the top, but below scheduled and pending transactions in a section named ADDITIONAL INFO. According to support, Banktivity was never intended to provide this information.ĮtA: I did find the cleared balance-which apparently Banktivity support didn't know about-on the account summary page near the bottom on the right. "You can login to your bank website to get that" (pardon me while I slam my head into my desk repeatedly)Ĭontrast: Quicken shows me what my bank says my balance is, what my register shows as my cleared balance, and what my register shows my future balance will be. Their support staff has confirmed that Banktivity has no means of showing you your current account balance, either through the register or reporting. Start with the number below the New and uncleared, and add all the New tranactionsīoggle Wait a minute, I just shelled out nearly $200 for a financial accounting package, why am I determining my current account balance with a pen and paper and a calculator? Start with the number at the top and then subtract all the uncleared transactionsī. In order to determine your current account balance, you can either:Ī. In neither situation is your current account balance ever shown on the screen. and one where all new and uncleared transactions are grouped together. There are two views: one ordered by date, without any separation of cleared and non-cleared transactions. Turns out that even though they have a register, it is not possible to determine your current account balance in Banktivity. Questions I had:įunny thing is, with all these numbers on the screen you would think you could know this. This is where the story all goes downhill. Since IGG only offers technical support in the morning, I had to take a day off work in order to get support :( Had to adjust my mindset.įinally I ended up with a small set of questions that I needed to reach out and get help on. A lot of times I eventually realized how much nicer Banktivity was than Quicken's 1984 Lotus 1-2-3 style. There was some differences, some oddities when coming from Quicken. It has true multi-user support, allowing my wife and I to share a single accounts view while working from different Macs. The online syncing works not perfectly, but better than Quicken does. Finally, after so many years I can finally dump Quicken Home & Business (via Windows emulation) for something built for the Mac.Īt first, it seemed like a match made in heaven. When I first downloaded and tried out Banktivity 7, I was thrilled.
